Dr. Irsad Ali — MCh Urology

Urology is a super-specialty, not a branch of general surgery. It is taken after a full surgical training: MBBS, then MS in General Surgery, then three more years of MCh in urology alone — around nine years beyond medical school before a urologist practises independently. Dr. Ali took his MCh at NIMS Hyderabad, one of India's main urology training centres, and is an Associate Consultant at Max Superspeciality Hospital. He has been in practice for over seven years.

What we see most often

If any of this sounds like you, a consultation is the right first step.

Kidney and ureteric stones

Urine infection that keeps returning

Prostate and urinary flow

Severe pain in the side or back that comes in waves, sometimes with blood in the urine or vomiting. Many stones pass on their own. Size and position decide the rest.

Burning, urgency, going often. One infection is common. Three in a year is a pattern, and a pattern needs investigating rather than another course of antibiotics.

A weaker stream, difficulty starting, getting up at night, or never feeling quite empty. Common after 50 and usually not serious — but worth checking rather than living with.

Blood in the urine

Genital warts and HPV

Men's health, discussed privately

Always worth assessing, even if it happened once and cleared up. Most causes are treatable, and the ones that matter are far easier to deal with early.

Common, treatable, and more awkward to think about than to deal with. Seen in a private consultation, with no lecture attached

Concerns men often put off raising. The consultation is private, unhurried, and you decide what happens next.

Consultation and examination

You see Dr. Ali here, in Vasant Kunj, Monday to Saturday between 5 and 7 pm. The consultation, the examination, going through your scans and reports, and deciding what to do next all happen at the clinic.

Urological surgery does not happen here. Stone surgery, prostate surgery and transplant work are done at Max Superspeciality Hospital, where Dr. Ali operates. We will tell you plainly which is which, and roughly what it costs, before you commit to anything.

Come in the same day if

You cannot pass urine at all. You have pain in the side with fever and vomiting. You can see blood in your urine. Or you have sudden, severe pain in one testicle — that can be a torsion, and it needs assessing within hours, not days.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to see a urologist here?

No. You can book directly, or walk in between 5 and 7 pm, Monday to Saturday. Bring any previous scans or reports if you have them.

What qualification should a urologist have?

MCh (Urology) or DNB (Urology). Both are taken after MS in General Surgery, so a urologist has around nine years of training after MBBS. A general surgeon who treats urinary problems is not a urologist.

Do all kidney stones need surgery?

No. Smaller stones often pass with fluids, pain relief and medication. Size, position and your symptoms decide whether anything more is needed.

Is blood in the urine always serious?

It always needs assessing. The causes range from infection and stones to conditions that matter more, and it should not be ignored even if it settles by itself.

When should prostate symptoms be checked?

Any change in flow, getting up at night, hesitancy or incomplete emptying — particularly after 50. These changes are usually benign, and they are easier to manage early.

Does Dr. Ali operate at this clinic?

No. Consultations happen here in Vasant Kunj. Surgery is done at a Hospital, where he operates. We will tell you which applies to you before anything is arranged.
